SACRAMENTO, Calif. (November 4, 2026) — Jaime Huff, President and CEO of the Civil Justice Association of California, today released the following statement after Secretary Xavier Becerra won his race for California Governor:
“We congratulate Governor-Elect Xavier Becerra on his historic election as California’s first elected Latino governor.
“This election marks a milestone for our state and an opportunity to provide Californians relief from the high cost of living. Lawsuit abuse makes nearly everything they buy more expensive, drains taxpayer dollars and threatens critical public services. Making California more affordable must include fixing a civil justice system that too often rewards billboard lawyers at everyone else’s expense.
“CJAC looks forward to working with Governor-Elect Becerra on reforms that deliver timely justice for victims, hold bad actors accountable and curb abusive lawsuits. Families, small businesses and taxpayers deserve a system that works for them.”
