Assemblyman Anthony Adams Honored with Civil Justice Leadership Award

SACRAMENTO — Assemblyman Anthony Adams (59th District) will be honored on Thursday, October 16, by the Civil Justice Association of California (CJAC) for his leadership during the 2007-08 legislative session.

“It is a tremendous honor to be recognized by the Civil Justice Association of California,” Assemblyman Adams said. “CJAC has been a strong and trusted ally in my effort to stop trial lawyers from further deteriorating our civil justice system and restoring balance and equality to our courtrooms. California’s taxpayers and business owners are better off because of the efforts of CJAC and I am honored to be a part of the work they are doing.”

During this past legislative session, Assemblyman Adams authored Assembly Bill 1905, a CJAC-sponsored bill that would have brought more fairness to California class actions by giving plaintiffs and defendants equal rights to immediately appeal a judge’s all-important class action certification decision. He also supported legislation to reduce extortionate disability access lawsuits, and fought valiantly as a member of the Assembly Judiciary Committee against trial lawyer-sponsored bills.

“Assemblyman Adams will receive our Civil Justice Leadership Award for his courage and dedication in working for more balance and fairness in California’s civil justice system,” said CJAC President John H. Sullivan. “The Assemblyman has proven his leadership by rejecting the plaintiffs’ lawyer’s agenda and instead striving to improve the state’s legal climate for consumers, taxpayers, and businesses.”

Assemblyman Adams’ district includes Apple Valley, Arcadia, Bradbury, Claremont, Glendora, Hesperia, Highland, La Verne, Monrovia, Redlands, San Bernardino, San Dimas, Sierra Madre, La Crescenta, Lake Arrowhead, and Crestline.

The Civil Justice Association of California annually recognizes lawmakers whose commitment to balance and fairness in California’s civil justice system benefits consumers, taxpayers, and businesses of all kinds.
